Imagination is more important than knowledge.

The "Father of Murder", Cain. The first killer. We all know the story. Cain got jealous of his brother Abel, and killed his older brother after God accepted HIS offering over Cain's. Much like that story, :iconqueendanny:'s character, Cain's life was the same. He was jealous of his brother, who was accepted by his father over him. Cain was passed over to be the next king. In typical succession fashion, he realized that if he killed his brother Damien, HE'D be king. So he resorted to murder. But what happened to both Cains ultimately was exile, especially after Danny's character Cain killed his own father sometime after.

But why did God choose Abel over Cain? Why was Damien more worthy when he was, at first, almost as bratty and proud as Cain? Well, there's a certain virtue that Damien ultimately began to manifest, and which Abel had in abundance. It's called Humility.

Most people don't really "get" humility. They think it means not taking pleasure in being praised. That's NOT it. The kid who wins a baseball game and gets ice cream from his dad for doing a good job, they're pleased, they OUGHT to be. The pleasure doesn't lie in what you are, but what you've DONE, it's about you doing something that you knew would make others happy and yourself happy. Also, being "proud" of your son or daughter or anything is not the same thing as the sin of Pride. No, this means "feeling a great affection towards". To love and admire anything outside yourself is to take a step away from spiritual damnation. It's a step in the right direction.

So then, what is "humility"? Well, a truly humble person is NOT somebody who's all greasy, smarmy and kiss-assy. He's not the type to say he's just a nobody. No, he's interested in what you have to say, in what you do. He's cheery, intelligent, but above all, he's the type of person who doesn't really think of himself, his thoughts are of others, and of what their concerns are. Humility is altruism, it means thinking of yourself less and thinking more of others.  It means you're strong enough and brave enough to endure great pain and sacrifice for others. It's a very mature way to live.

Cain didn't have that spirit of humility. He didn't care about pleasing God, not really. He wanted God to think he was a fantastic sort of person who'd made the best offering. But his offering, unlike Abel's, wasn't sincere, and a humble person should be sincere in his actions, especially when trying to show respect to others. For Cain, this was just something he could outdo his brother at, a duty he could do better. For Abel, it was serious business. And rather than heed God's warning that he should cool his heels, Cain killed his brother, and then lied about it.

It is the attitude of humility that ultimately comes upon Damien as well, because he begins to care less about himself and more about others. A concern for family, friends and his people took precedence over wearing a shiny crown. Yeah, he loved the crown and the power. But he loved his ohana more.

So remember folks...be sincere, be humble. It's less difficult than you'd think. ;)
